Pedestrian killed by car

A motorist struck and killed a woman as she was walking across a street near her Tacony home on Sunday morning.

Donna Diehl, 54, of the 6300 block of Gillespie St., was crossing Levick Street at about 8:10 a.m. when a westbound 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer struck her, Philadelphia police said.

Diehl lost consciousness and suffered multiple injuries to her head, arms and legs. She was pronounced dead about an hour later at Aria Health-Torresdale.

The driver, who has not been identified, was a 63-year-old woman who remained at the scene until police arrived, according to a broadcast report.

She claimed that she blew her horn and swerved to avoid Diehl, but the pedestrian did not respond and continued walking into the vehicle’s path. The driver has not been charged criminally. The crash remains under investigation. ••
